Plan A
The future development plan A of this potential area is to attract businesses into the building and encourage young entrepreneurs working in the Downtown Opelika. The outer walls of the white building will be repainted and utilized as a business incubator. The nearby empty office house can be used as an Appstore branch from a software company for purchasing the ideas from the young designers.
The development plan is to preserve the original landscape of Downtown Opelika. It will not demolish the building but will revitalize the surrounding area for supporting the daily demand.
Plan B
The future development plan B of the potential area is to create a recreational area for families and stimulate tourists’ growth and promote economic growth. The empty building should be remodeled and introduce new stakeholders for the daily administration of a children’s museum. To maintain the museum's affairs, general admission tickets will be taken. A bakery shop can also open near the children’s museum to supply refreshment and introduce Chinese American, Italian-American, French-American or other mixes of American cakes.
More recreational facilities will come into this area and make this area more dynamic as well as drive the whole downtown development. The museum will improve the child-parent relationship and family cohesion, thus building a happy and healthy neighborhood.
Ideal Plan
The ideal plan is the combination of plan A and B, for the potential area is to create a complex to integrate beneficial resources for attracting business and enhancing regional value. Considering existing barriers in Downtown Opelika development and taking the considerations and desires of residents, rebuilding the black deserted building and redeveloping the building as a small business incubator. The children’s museum still using Timmermann building, as for outside street decoration, LED street lamps will brighten the South 8th Street at night. The building can be applied as a data center to collect business data and building performance data and be open to the public for guiding the decision making.
